Moodle App Development for the Plakos Academy
The Plakos Academy has established itself as a leading provider of online tests and e-learning training courses, specializing in preparation for recruitment tests across more than 100 professions. With over half a million monthly users and more than 40 published textbooks, Plakos is one of the most important testing platforms in the German-speaking world.
Introducing Moodle as a Learning Management System (LMS)
After years of developing its own internal testing software, Plakos decided to adopt Moodle, an open-source learning management system. This strategic move enables Plakos to remain technologically up to date while focusing more on content development and the expansion and improvement of its course offerings.

This is where uberneu came in. Many factors had to be considered during decision-making and implementation, particularly customer needs and the desire to remain future-proof with an open-source solution – without neglecting brand identity. We opted for a customized open-source app, tailored specifically to Plakos and published under their brand.
This decision resulted in an app that benefits from ongoing developments and bug fixes of the open-source version while requiring minimal maintenance. The transfer of branding, as well as the automation of build and deployment for Google Play and the App Store, was realized in a very short time. This marked a significant improvement, as the apps had previously been built and published manually with considerable effort.The Plakos app differs only slightly in functionality from the standard Moodle app, but it offers simplified onboarding, more intuitive navigation, and a design that consistently reflects the corporate identity of the Plakos Academy. Particularly noteworthy is the ability to use content offline – a feature that was missing from the previous app version.
